Joe Malone PhD, CPT, LWMC, CFE

Dr. Joe Malone holds a Ph.D. in Health and Human Performance with a specialization in sexual wellness. Malone has also earned national certifications as a Personal Trainer, Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant, and Fitness Educator.

He is the former Chair of the Nashville Community Health and Wellness Team and the current Topic Network Chair for Health Promotion for the Society for the Study of Emerging Adulthood. Dr. Malone is a former Division I college football player and coach. He was a fitness management professional and personal trainer from the mid-1990s to 2007.

Starting in 2007 Dr. Malone began to focus on promoting the overall wellness of college-age women in particular because of their potential, if healthy and fit, to maternally imprint their future children for more positive health outcomes throughout their lives. Relatedly, he created a College Women’s Wellness class and program at the university.

Over the course of the five years, it took to earn the PhD his female classes shared with him the physical and emotional damage and heartbreak they were experiencing in their relationship lives in something they called hookup culture. At that point the focus of the PhD turned to sexual wellness, especially with regard to young women.

Dr. Malone served on the Centers for Disease Control STD Prevention initiative for the state of Tennessee. He has been happily married to his wife Jody for over 40 years. Dr. Malone is co-author of Battles of the Sexes and with Jody, cofounder of the nonprofit Sex IQ .

Jody and he enjoy working out and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
