7 Ways To Celebrate Labor Day

Labor Day is that annual holiday that transitions us from the summer season to autumn. For many it is our last hurrah – our chance to get that brief break before the push toward the end of the year begins. You can make it more than the default setting on your calendar. We’ve identified seven ways you can gain and GIVE greater value. Let the Labor Day holiday be a catalyst for you to enter into the presence of God’s Spirit and be the life of Christ to others.

#1 HONOR THOSE WHO WORK

The purpose of this holiday is to pay tribute annually throughout the nation to the contributions workers have made to the wellbeing of our country. The work people do all around you can be hard and requires thought, effort and persistence. This holiday is more than a token day. View it instead as an opportunity God gives you to thank a parent, mentor someone new to the labor force, recognize someone who recently retired, and look into the face of someone who is working for you right now (a restaurant server, fitness facility employee, church leader, cashier, public service provider or someone else TODAY) and communicate your appreciation to her or him.

This holiday on a spiritual level gives us the opportunity to attach a greater value to the work people do beyond money. It reminds us that God brings all of us together as a whole body. He has designed us to function together and to be thankful for the energy, effort and care each person contributes. This holiday can reignite each of us to flex our spiritual strengths of compassion, grace, gratitude and prayer.
